Best Things To Do In Lombok – An Extreme Sports Enthusiast Suggestion

Welcome to the wonders of Lombok, an island that weaves adventure, relaxation, delectable dining and breathtaking beaches into a tapestry of unforgettable experiences. But why do we, as humans, crave these moments? It’s the rush of emotions, the elevation of our awareness, and the expansion of our cultural perspectives that make these adventures so irresistible.

I find myself calling Indonesia home now, drawn to the captivating charm of Lombok by a simple yet powerful yearning for an extraordinary life filled with surf escapades. Much like my journeys to different corners of the world, I take joy in riding various waves, each bringing a unique thrill. Every wave is a new story; no two waves, swells, or surf spots are alike. The variables in surfing echo the diversity of experiences we seek while globetrotting, releasing hormones that lift our spirits.

In this blog, I aim to be your guide to the best Lombok has to offer. To make planning your adventure easier, I’ve sorted the island’s attractions by region. From the awe-inspiring natural beauty and the towering Mount Rinjani to sun-soaked beaches and renowned surf spots, Lombok’s coastline is a canvas painted with a variety of adventures. Whether you’re exploring with friends, a special someone, or flying solo, Lombok promises a plethora of sights, activities, flavors, and experiences waiting to be uncovered.

Surfing In Lombok

There are many waves in Lombok to explore, and if surfing is what you’re after, this island will keep you busy! I’m going to keep my favorite spots a secret, but if you would like to dig deeper, surfingindosia.com is a great resource. Check them out and you will get all the information you need.

Trekking Mount Rinjani

For anyone setting foot in Lombok for the first time, trekking is an absolute must. Mount Rinjani stands as the highest peak on the western side of the island, claiming the title of the second-highest volcano in Indonesia, soaring more than 3,726 meters into the sky.

Despite the challenging ascent, trekking enthusiasts find themselves drawn to Mount Rinjani time and time again. If you’re planning to tackle this renowned mountain, it’s crucial to pack wisely. Equip yourself with appropriate clothing and sturdy footwear, and pace yourself, especially if you’re not an experienced hiker.

The payoff for conquering Mount Rinjani is nothing short of spectacular, offering panoramic views of Lombok in all its glory. The journey to the summit can take up to five hours, demanding perseverance and dedication. You can opt for a guide and porters to help you along your two-day journey. If you pride yourself on being a devoted nature lover or a serious hiker, this climb deserves a top spot on your list of things to do in Lombok.

Waterfalls of Lombok

The primary attraction of Lombok, in my opinion, is its natural beauty, and Lombok has a variety of magnificent waterfalls to explore. The following are my top eight:

  • Sendang Gile and Tiu Kelep Waterfall
  • Benang Stokel and Benang Kelambu Waterfall
  • Sindang Gila Waterfall
  • Tetebatu Waterfall
  • Burung Walet Waterfall
  • Mangku Sakti & Mangku Kodek Waterfalls
  • Kawangan Waterfall
  • Mangku Sakti Waterfall

Recently, my partner and I spent an afternoon hiking near Benang Stokel and Kelambu waterfalls, which are close to Mount Rinjani. We enjoyed dipping into the cool pools and rinsing away the sweat under the stunning falls. We even found two hidden waterfalls along the way, and were lucky to have them all to ourselves!

Gili Islands

The eastern islands, known as the Gili Islands, have managed to hold onto their natural charm. Although each island has its distinct activities, swimming and snorkeling are the most popular things to do on each one.

The names of the Gili islands are

  • Gili Trawangan
  • Gili Air
  • Gili Meno

Gili Trawangan is well known for scuba diving and freediving courses. It is also a great choice if you want a fantastic party every evening.

Gili Air is a small island to explore, with a blue sea, white sand, and abundant underwater life where you can definitely find Nemo. A traveler can explore the entire island in just 30 minutes by cycle- no Uber needed!

The quiet Gili Meno Island offers exceptional snorkeling. It is a great place for newlyweds, couples, and anyone looking for a quiet vacation.
