Lombok is home to some fantastic eateries, each with its unique vibe. After living here for over a year, I’ve discovered that the food scene is a real treat, especially in and around Kuta, where restaurants provide quality meals in laid-back and loungey atmospheres.
This blog isn’t just about recommending good places to eat; it’s a glimpse into my experiences, hoping to connect you with the moments that make dining more than just a meal. Food, to me, is about time, music, and atmosphere it’s an experience.
Speaking of experiences, stay tuned for the opening of Cocoon Reserve Restaurant in late 2024; check our homepage for a sneak peek into what we are building, and leave your email address if you want to be the first to know when we open our doors.
Why do we love experiences? They make us feel. And that feeling creates lasting memories. By sharing what’s etched in my memory, I hope to add a sprinkle of joy to your eating experiences in suggesting my personal best restaurants in Lombok. Personally, I only have two meals per day usually a late brunch after surfing and dinner.
I am going to share my 5 favorite brunch experiences and my 5 favorite evening dining experiences. There are many amazing restaurants that I would share; however, that would be a long-winded blog, so I am sharing only several of my most memorable.
These are in no fancy order just a collection of places that have left a mark on me, each contributing to the gratitude bank of memories. Enjoy!
My Top 5 brunch Spots
A good feed after a rejuvenating surf session is a must for me. I seek places that offer comfort, a cool ambiance, and the perfect setting to relish a delicious coffee and brunch. Here are my top go spots after a satisfying morning surf:
Munchies

It has a fantastic vibe that I absolutely love. The restaurant’s ambiance is just right for enjoying flavorful coffee, offering various coffee beans from around Indonesia. With high roofing, minimalistic decor, and super comfy chairs, Munchies creates an inviting space to dive into their curated breakfast menu filled with creative dishes. I always enjoy changing things up and trying new items on their menu. Also, if you’re looking to get some work done, It provides a great atmosphere for that.
Rascals
It is a hidden gem among Kuta resorts, offering an enchanting setting with beautiful decor and an open-air ambiance that welcomes the cool breeze. The owner has meticulously selected the breakfast experience, hand-picking each song to be played at a specific time in the morning, enhancing your overall enjoyment. Boasting one of the top five coffees in town, thanks to their master barista Bagus, Rascals provides a delightful breakfast experience. Nestled away from the main roads, the tranquil atmosphere is predominantly enjoyed by resort guests savoring their morning meals. I highly recommend indulging in the “Mushroom” or “Green Diamond” breakfast options. Following your meal, take a leisurely break by the pool, allowing the food to settle. For a delightful post-breakfast treat, order the toasted banana bread with peanut butter.
Markisa

It is a hidden gem slightly off the beaten path, offering a breakfast experience that excels in taste and presentation. Markisa flavors are amazing, and the way they assemble breakfast is truly impressive. The sourdough bread baked in-house is amazing, and the parmesan eggs are my go-to. It can get warm when sitting on the deck upstairs at the restaurant, so choose a cooler day to fully enjoy the food without breaking a sweat.
Segara
About 25 minutes out of town and close to some of my favorite surf breaks, Segara is a hidden oasis. Open-planned with high ceilings, the restaurant offers the soothing sound of the ocean while you enjoy your meal. They offer a breakfast deal-coffee, juice, and entree for 110k (about 6 euro). Afterward, play a game of chess or relax on their day beds for a post-breakfast recharge. If you decide to head out that way, take a book and savor the tranquil atmosphere.
Kenza
It has an extraordinary brunch space, featuring charming Moroccan-inspired decor that envelops you in a delightful atmosphere. It plays one of my favorite playlists in town, and I often pull out my phone to use Shazam to capture those catchy tunes! The coffee at Kenza is exceptional, and their acai smoothie bowl is not just delicious but also brimming with nutritional goodness. Renowned for its top-notch salads, Kenza boasts a diverse and satisfying menu. The restaurant’s natural lighting enhances the relaxed ambiance, providing a comfortable and enjoyable dining experience. A personal favorite of mine is the roast chicken, slow-cooked for an entire day. Kenza seamlessly combines excellent food, inviting decor, and a laid-back setting, making it my preferred choice for a memorable and enjoyable brunch outing.
My Top 5 Dinner Spots in Lombok
El Bazar

For an exquisite dining experience or a perfect date night, El Bazar is one of my go-to choices. With a focus on Mediterranean cuisine and a fine selection of wines (my partner swears by the Rioja), the restaurant offers an enchanting atmosphere. The owners have crafted a magical space where lighting, decor, and music create the ideal setting for a romantic evening. My top picks from the menu are the lamb hind shank and the roasted cauliflower.
Mama Pizza
Pizza claims the title of the best pizza spot in town, and rightfully so. Pizza is one of my all-time favorites, and Mama Pizza sourdough-based pizzas, served straight from the oven, are a must-try. Despite my slight gluten intolerance (accompanied by the occasional itchy eyes), I can’t resist indulging in their pizzas. The restaurant is usually buzzing with patrons, and I particularly enjoy the outdoor seating. My go to pizza is “The Brit” or the “Prosciutto di Parma” with added jalapenos.
The Mexican In Town
When it comes to Mexican cuisine, The Mexican In Town takes the crown for my favorite. While there is another option, Satu Lagi, which has a more lively atmosphere, I prefer the quieter ambiance of The Mexican In Town for meaningful conversations with friends. The restaurant boasts a fantastic playlist, including some disco tunes that blend seamlessly with the atmosphere. My go-to dish is their beef taco, and if you plan your visit on a Monday night, you’re in for a treat with their special all plates for 65k IDR (about 4 euro).
Ashtari
Ashtari holds a special place in my heart it was the first place I stayed when I moved to best restaurants in lombok test the waters, and it’s where I had my first date night with my partner. For a romantic evening, I highly recommend asking them to set up a dinner in the yoga shala, providing an unforgettable panoramic view of Kuta. The main restaurant offers an incredible setting with delightful Indian cuisine. The palak paneer is a must-try, and the sourdough garlic naan is the perfect addition.
La Cabana

Located within the boutique hotel Sikara, La Cabana offers a delightful escape from the bustling main road. With ambient lighting beneath an open bamboo structure and a curated selection of music, it’s an ideal setting for a romantic evening. The chicken burger is my personal favorite and one of the best in town. If you’re in the mood for a burger, this is my top pick. The tranquil atmosphere, away from the main strip, enhances the overall dining experience for a truly romantic evening.
There are numerous places to explore, each offering its own unique touch of joy; however, these particular ones have left an enduring impression on me, drawing me back on a weekly or monthly basis. I hope they leave a lasting impact on you as well, and that you have the opportunity to experience one of them while in best restaurants in lombok. We eagerly anticipate adding a new dining experience at Cocoon Reserve to our list soon.
